Privacy Policy
Short version: we don't run ads, we don't use tracking cookies, and we don't sell data, because there isn't any to sell. Here's the full version.

Who we are
Batteries4Better ("B4B," "we," "us") is a student-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Virginia (EIN 41-5043292). This policy covers batteries4better.org only: a set of static informational pages. There's no user login and no database on our end that stores visitor activity.
What this site does not do
We don't use cookies, and we don't run any analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts: no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, nothing similar. We don't build a profile of you or track you across other sites. If that ever changes, we'll update this page and the date above.
Fonts and scripts loaded from outside our site
This site loads its typeface from Google Fonts, and the Get Involved page embeds our Google Form. Loading these sends your browser's IP address and standard request headers to Google's servers, the same as loading an image from any other website. We don't receive or see that data ourselves; it's governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
The Find a drop-off page and the Find a drop-off section on our home page are the only places we use other outside services. Their map images load from OpenStreetMap as soon as the page opens. When you search, the ZIP code you typed goes to Zippopotam.us to find its location, and that location goes to OpenStreetMap's Overpass service to look up nearby stores. Each of those services sees your browser's IP address and standard request headers, as any website does. We don't receive, store, or log the ZIP codes people search. The Directions buttons are ordinary links that open Google Maps only if you click them.
Hosting
This is a static website with no server-side application. Our hosting provider may automatically log standard technical information (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) for security and reliability, the same way any web host does. We don't layer a separate analytics dashboard on top of that.
Volunteer, regional director, and chapter applications
Chapter and regional director applications go through a Google Form, embedded on our Get Involved page. Information you submit there (like your name, email, and school or community) goes to the B4B core team to review and follow up on your application. We use it only for that purpose.
Emailing us
This site has no contact form. The "Open email" links open your own device's email app addressed to team@batteries4better.org, and "Copy address" only copies that address to your clipboard. We receive nothing unless you send us an email yourself.
Social media
Our Instagram and LinkedIn links take you to those platforms, which have their own privacy practices outside our control.
Children's privacy
B4B is a student-led organization, but this website does not knowingly collect personal information directly from visitors of any age. Information submitted through the linked Google Forms should be provided by the applicant, with a parent or guardian's involvement where appropriate.
Changes to this policy
If what this site actually does changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
